We are organising a charity event for independent travelers. The idea is to ride round the perimeter of the Indian rail network (near as damn it) starting at Mumbai and touching Dwarka, Udhapmpur, Ledo and Kannyakumari at the extreme west, north, east and southern points of the network. We'll be going flat out in an effort to nail it in 2 weeks and a few hours. We've got 20 on the train so far and we're going in February 2011, so you've no excuses.

We are raising money for the charity Railway Children .

If you ever wanted to do something like this, but wanted some mates to do it with, this is your chance. We've got a bunch of people with immense India and Indian Railway experience in the gang already, but we are all independent travelers, so you sign up at your own risk

As I've said twice already, this is a charitable venture, there are no agents or tour operators involved, so please view my posting sympathetically.

We will be building up a huge blog here http://gcirc.wordpress.com, You can get more information and follow the projects development on there prior to the event itself.

Please message me or respond to this thread if you'd like more info. And apologies to the admins if I've broken all the rules ;).

We are a private group of individuals organising a mad dash round the perimeter of the Indian Railway network. 2 weeks starting Mumbai, and going to the furthest most points west, north, east and south of the IR system, and back to Mumbai. We're going in Feb 2011 so you've loads of time to work out how to join in.
We've got about 25 people in the gang right now, and about 7 ladies on the trip so far, so if you are one of the superior sex and wanted some company to do an Indian train trip with, this is a great chance.
You'll be buying your own ticket direct from IR, we have people who can show you how to do that. There are absolutely no agents or operators involved, and nobody is actually in charge, it's a sort of social networking experiment. You can do just part of the trip if you think that 2 weeks solid on Indian trains is just a bit too stupid. The Assam section alone would be a great adventure in itself.
It will cost about £150 to £300 depending on how comfy you want to be.
Please contact me for more info. We have a blog about the development of the project

I can only imagine that the above is some kind of spam post.

Anyhow, you'll have to follow the links and show some initiative if you've stumbled across this and are interested as we're filling up.

I think that its really a very gigantic task and needs quite a lot of consideration. I am from Bangalore and now intending to visit there to see the process.

It's a altruistic effort and hope you will get the better response. I think the Indian Railway department is the largest public transport of world.
